You expect Ray to get so pissed while arguing with Susan that he'd decide to whip his dick out and punish her pussy while she's immobile with her leg still in cast. That unfortunately does NOT happen!
What DOES happen is that Susan gets drunk and takes advantage of her's son's raging hormones and the fact that his girlfriend (very boring character) does not even want to kiss him. The scene is cheesy because Susan gives Ray some tips on how to do it with his GF while chugging glass after glass of Gin&Tonic. At the middle of her tutorial they start making love; I ain't joking. There's nothing rough, just sweet sex under the bed sheet covers.
Now from this moment on, the viewer expects the movie to pick-up on the mother love theme and I unzipped my pants waiting for the interesting bits on the second half of the movie. Well there's a bad news and a good one. The bad news is that my cock remained flaccid until the end. The good news is that Alberta Watson decides to give her character more color, sweet motherly attitude, and unlike all her other roles in cinema - a SMILE!
The roles are reversed because Ray becomes and an unpleasant character who rather the being happy that he has smelled his loving mother's sweaty body and bring her to an orgasm, he starts hating himself. Immediately after his night with Susan he scrubs his skin roughly with a brush under almost boiling warm water while taking a bath. I felt that the director David Russell wanted to build excitement in the viewer at the beginning of the movie and climax with the mother love scene. Actually if you want to laugh and I'm sure this is the only reason why IMDB has qualified this movie as Drama/Comedy is because towards the end there's a scene in which Ray talks with his father who presumably neglects the lovely Susan and fucks cheap pussy in road side motels. Ray in his anger shouts in the phone receiver to his dad that he has had the sweet pussy of his wife.
